Hello and Congratulations!
My name is Nikki Mather, I am based in Alderley Edge, Cheshire and I invest my time in supporting families as a Birth Doula and providing Family Support as a Postnatal Doula, Recognised by Doula UK and I also support new doulas as a Doula UK Mentor.
I specialise in Infant Feeding and provide holistic family support across Cheshire & Greater Manchester.
Being a mum myself of three children ranging from 13 through to 25, I understand the need for good support networks. It was during the pregnancies and early months of my own children that I started researching exactly what pregnancy means to me and the physiology of birth. I was eager to learn more about what exactly it was that made our bodies so amazing and that led me to be called to this work, supporting new mothers and their families in their journey.
I believe families should continue to have access to that one to one support, whether that is a family member, a friend or a professional doula. I would like all families to have the support, time and encouragement to choose the right birth for them and make informed choices in the early weeks and months of parenthood.
I have experience of postnatal support, helping families in the early weeks with singletons and multiples, breastfeeding support, older siblings and teenage families, intersectional couples and families with complex needs. I also support families during pregnancy in topics which span the time from pregnancy to parenting. In antenatal one to one sessions a range of topics are covered including birth plans and preferences, how to know when you are in labour, birthing positions, infant feeding including how to prepare for breastfeeding and what to expect in the early days and weeks with a newborn.
Doula support in Cheshire and beyond
Hello and congratulations on your family’s upcoming birth. I hope you find the information you need below, do get in touch with any questions.
My name is Nikki Mather and I am based near Manchester on the Cheshire border in Alderley Edge, and work with families across North West England as a Birth and Postnatal Doula.
I support families who walk all paths to birth; I can support you with any options you choose in the months you wait to meet your baby and in the place you feel most comfortable, whether that be in hospital or at home. Doula support is available to you if you are using hypnobirthing or mindfulness or you are opting for medical pain relief, induction or caesarean for your birth.
Birth can be an amazing, transitional experience. With the exciting months you have ahead, you may be thinking about having a doula to help in your transition to motherhood. As a new parent, you may feel worried, excited, anxious, nervous, all at the same time! Doula support in your pregnancy, birth postnatal weeks can be beneficial for you in your journey to discover more about the coming months.
As a Birth Doula and Postnatal Doula I fully believe pregnancy and birth can be an amazing, transitional experience, always accompanying you on your journey to motherhood when needed, I am able to listen fully and support you to find your own way, encourage and be with you, always available to support you emotionally as you are empowered to birth freely in your own time. I tailor the support offered to families throughout their individual journeys who plan elective cesareans, families who choose to home birth and those who opt into induction or hospital birth.
I have over 14 years experience supporting families with infant feeding including breastfeeding issues & bottle feeding, and have experience in paid and voluntary roles to facilitate family support, supporting over 1000 women with one to one support. I also have vast experience with facilitating group family support during pregnancy and parenting. Over the years have supported the work of La Leche GB and Association of Breastfeeding Mothers as a volunteer and worked privately with IBCLC’s and Specialist Midwives who are leading experts in the world of infant feeding gaining hands on experience and have built great working relationships up with them to provide holistic support to families. For more complex issues I am able to refer to the appropriate healthcare professionals for complex issues across the North West.
Family support after your bay arrives is tailored to meet your own needs – what suits one family may not be to the needs of another. You may need support with newborn expectations and what is normal during the first days, weeks or months. Your family may need some support during the evening, daytime or overnight with feeding support, getting some much needed rest with baby care or some practical support where the house is magically sorted and meals prepared whilst you have an extra pair of hands in the house. Family support is flexible and can be booked in around your family’s needs.
